2,700-Year-Old Assyrian Sculpture Unearthed at Nineveh In 2023, archaeologists in northern Iraq uncovered a stone sculpture that had been buried for nearly 2,700 years beneath the ruins of Nineveh, once one of the great capitals of the Assyrian Empire.
