Watching HAMILTON in Theaters Is WORTH IT (Be in the Room Where It Happens)

Interesting National Film Board film from 1956 profiling Stelco steelworker Cecil Lewis and his role of editor of Steel Shots, the newsletter for the United Steelworkers of America Local 1005. The union offices in the film were located in the old Wentworth Street Baptist Church at King William and Wentworth (torn down). The National Film Board has a number of video clips posted online. I thought it would be fun to stitch a few together that appear to be taken around the same time (1950s) and add some music from that era. In this case, Canada's The Four Lads are performing, "I Just Don't Know". The clips show the Jolley Cut a few years apart, the view west, the view east with a focus on Stelco, finishing on Burlington Street at Stelco. Look for the intrepid kid on his bike at the end. This video from the National Film Board shows Hamilton celebrating its diversity at a ceremony for new citizens sometime soon after World War Two. Many nations are showcased. Mayor Sam Lawrence, Hon. Paul Martin (Sr), Judge Lazier, Crown Attorney Harvey McCullock, Judge W.F. Schwenger and Miss Canada Marion Saver are in attendance. Ceremony likely took place at City Hall.
